Scenes from my first Foodtography Workshop

This July, I hosted my first ever food photography workshop (dubbed #foodtographyworkshop) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I, along with my exceptional assistant Hilari and the amazingly talented Sherrie Castellano of With Food + Love, hosted 13 amazing women from all over the country. We spent our days learning about composition, light, and color, photographing each meal along the way. We had a 5-course meal cooked by a nationally acclaimed chef, went on a quest for local ingredients at the farmer’s market, drank delicious summer cocktails made by a local bartender, were treated to multiple delicious meals from Sherrie.  I couldn’t be more humbled to have had such a phenomenal group of students for my first workshop, and feel a truly special bond with each and every woman that came.

Below I’ve put together some workshop highlights. Enjoy!

Oh, and PS- if you’re interested in joining one of my food photography workshops, I have 2 spots left for the next one in Napa, CA in September! Comment below to get in touch!

Opening night dinner

I’m talking a 5-course meal prepared by Sarah Welch, an award-winning Detroit chef who I used to work with in Ann Arbor. Paired with an absolutely amazing design by Detroit Cultivated, it was an unforgettable opening night.

Breakfast Toast Bar

Forget pancakes and waffles, this breakfast toast bar was to die for.

Lunch at Fred’s

My dear friend Fred hosted us at his Instagram-worthy eatery and it was every bit as delicious as it looked. I was busy helping our group photograph, so these lovely photos are from two attendees- Emily and Shannan!

Cake Decorating Class

Would it really be a Broma Bakery workshop without cake? We got into small groups to style these two gorgeous cakes.

Family-style dinner

Sherrie absolutely nailed our second night’s dinner. From summer corn & polenta to the most amazing chilled soup, it was the group’s favorite meal of the entire weekend.

Cheese Boards and Cocktails

Saturday night we got into teams of two to style our very own cheese boards. The results were feta-stic. Afterwards, my friend Pierce made 3 delicious summer cocktails for us to sip and shoot.

Goodbye Dinner at Aventura

We took the last night off to enjoy delicious tapas at one of my old work spots, Aventura. It was the perfect way to end the week.

A HUGE thank you to everyone involved in this workshop- Sherrie, Hilari, the lovely owners of the gorgeous house that was our backdrop for the weekend, Sarah Welch and her team, The Graduate for hosting our attendees, Detroit Cultivated for the amazing opening dinner design, Sur La Table and Cloud Terre for the most beautiful collection of plates, silverware, and glassware, Louis Jadot for providing us with my favorite French wines, Fred’s, AventuraKroger, Vermont CreameryNershi Woodworks, Detroit Denim Co., and Facture Goods. It was a team effort every step of the way, and I thank you for your contributions!
