Frozen Palomas

There are few things better than a cold, slushy, boozy cocktail on a hot summer day in my opinion. As soon as the temps start to rise get this girl on a patio with a cool glass of frozen rosé, a jalapeño mango margarita, or my newest obsession: a frozen paloma.

What is a frozen paloma?

Exactly what it sounds like! This boozy summertime drink is a classic paloma in slushy form. A traditional paloma is made with white tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice and agave. So to make it frozen? Simply combine all those ingredients with grapefruit ice cubes, blend it up and inhale!

What do you need to make a frozen paloma?

I LOVE making fancy cocktails at home. It can turn any old night into a fun one. And it’s also SO easy to do. No need to go out to the bar when you can make a scrumptious summer cocktail right at home with just 4 simple ingredients and a blender. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Lime Juice
  • Tequila
  • Agave
  • Grapefruit Juice
  • High powered blender

How to make the best frozen paloma

Cocktail recipes are generally pretty straightforward, but if you’re new to the homemade cocktail game, don’t worry! These frozen palomas are a breeze to make and the recipe is super forgiving. Here are our top tricks for perfect palomas every time:

  • Make grapefruit ice cubes: The worst part about summer cocktails is that they tend to melt and get watered down. That’s where grapefruit ice cubes come in. Simply make a tray of grapefruit juice ice cubes and even when your drink starts to melt it won’t lose any flavor.
  • Use good tequila: This should go without saying, but the quality of your alcohol can really make or break your frozen paloma. We love Casamigos, but use whatever is your favorite!
  • Wait to make the frozen palomas until you’re ready to drink them: The key to a good frozen summer cocktail is keeping it cold as long as possible. I like to wait to make these until just before we’re going to drink them so they stay frozen!
  • Don’t forget the salt rim: Or if sugar is your thang, feel free to do that too! I personally love these tart palomas with a salt rim with a dash of chili powder for an extra kick!

Units:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups 100% grapefruit juice*
  • 3 ounces lime juice
  • 3 ounces tequila
  • 1 to 1.5 ounce agave (or to taste)
  • rock salt

Instructions

    1. Pour the grapefruit juice into ice cube trays and place in the freezer for at least 2 hours or until frozen solid.
    2. Once you’re ready to make your frozen palomas, combine grapefruit ice cubes, lime juice, tequila and agave in a high power blender.
    3. Blend on high speed until the frozen palomas are a slushy like consistency. If they taste too tart, add a bit more agave. If they are too thick, add a splash of grapefruit juice.
    4. If desired, serve in glasses with a salt rim and garnish with a grapefruit or lime wedge. Serve cold!

Notes

  1. We used freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit, but you could also use store bought juice–just make sure that it’s 100% juice.h
