Ingredients for Peanut Butter and Fluff Rice Krispie Treats

I love these Rice Krispie treats because you only need a few simply ingredients to throw together a decadent and delicious dessert. Here’s your (very short!) shopping list:

  • Marshmallows: You’ll need a standard size 16 ounce bag of marshmallows for this fun rice krispie treats recipe! You can use mini marshmallows or standard size, just make sure not to skimp and use a full bag!
  • Rice Krispies: Obviously an essential ingredient in Rice Krispie Treats!
  • Butter: Unsalted or salted butter will be fine! This will help keep your treats soft and chewy and prevent them from drying out.
  • Salt: Salt is the most underrated ingredient in baked goods.  A pinch of salt goes a LONG way in deepening the flavor of any sweet treat, so don’t leave it out!
  • Peanut Butter: We recommend using a traditional creamy peanut butter like Jiff or Skippy. A natural brand won’t set up or hold it’s shape like the good cheap stuff will, but if it’s all you have on hand it will absolutely work! Just don’t melt it!
  • Marshmallow Fluff: If you’ve every had a fluffernutter sandwich, then you know that marshmallow fluff is an absolute necessity in these pb + fluff rice krispie treats!

Tips for best peanut butter and fluff rice krispie treats

Homemade Rice Krispie treats are a breeze to make, and with these quick tips you’ll have perfectly soft and gooey peanut butter and fluff Rice Krispie treats in no time!

  • Be sure to grease your pan: I won’t sugar coat it–these pb + fluff rice krispie treats are STICKY. To prevent these bad boy from turning into a sticky mess I like to line my pan and grease it so that your rice krispie treats will release easily from your pan!
  • Don’t overcook the marshmallows: If you stir in the rice krispies while the marshmallows are still cooking you’ll end up cooking your cereal a little bit too. This can lead to a chewier and stale tasting rice krispie treat, so make sure you take the butter/marshmallow mixture off the heat before mixing everything together.
  • Let them set fully before slicing: I understand the urge to inhale these the moment they’re in the pan, but it will just be a mess if you try to eat these before they set up. Let them set for at least an hour or pop in the freezer to set up even quicker!
  • Store in an airtight container to prevent them from drying out: No one likes a stale rice krispie treat, so be sure to store your rice krispie treats in an airtight container or plastic bag to prevent them from drying out. I like to keep them in the fridge to keep them fresh for as long as possible!

Units:

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces marshmallows (1 standard size bag or about 8 cups of mini marshmallows)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • pinch of salt
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter*, melted
  • 1/3 cup marshmallow fluff

Instructions

    1. Line a 9 x 9 pan with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Set aside.
    2. Place butter in a large pot over medium heat. Melt the butter, stirring constantly. Once the butter is melted add the marshmallows and salt. Use a rubber spatula to stir the marshmallows until fully melted, making sure that none of the marshmallows burn. Remove from the heat immediately
    3. Add the Rice Krispies, folding to fully coat the cereal.
    4. Put the peanut butter in the microwave for 15 seconds or until melted slightly.
    5. Drop the melted peanut butter and fluff into the batter and fold a few times to distribute the peanut butter without fully mixing in the peanut butter and fluff. You want there to be thick swirls.
    6. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan, using a rubber spatula coated in cooking spray to press the mixture down into an even layer.
    7. Allow to cool for at least an hour before slicing into twelve Rice Krispie treats. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. We recommend using a stiffer peanut butter like Jiff or Skippy rather than a natural peanut butter!
