Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and preheat your airfryer to 400°F.
Fill a large pot with water, 1 teaspoon of the salt, and the potatoes.
Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Cook the potatoes until they are fork tender, about 20 minutes.
Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them and toss with olive oil, garlic, and the remaining salt.
Place the potatoes a few inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets and use a fork or the bottom of a glass to smash the potatoes down to about ¼ inch thickness.
Bake in the air fryer for 20 minutes. Use a spatula to flip the potatoes over and bake for another 20 minutes or until the potatoes are golden brown.
