Introducing our newest obsession: Bumbleberry Chia Jam.
Of all the fruits, berries are my absolute FAVORITE. And I don’t discriminate, I love every berry. Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberry, gimme allll of them.
So it comes as no surprise that when we decided to make chia jam it was going to be berry and not just one, but THREE.
Bumbleberry Chia Jam made with raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries, and thickened with chia seeds instead of sugar or other additives. It tastes like summer and just makes your mouth happy.
Slather this berry chia jam on some toasted bread, make a PB & J, whip up some hand pies, pair it with cheese and crackers, or eat it by the spoonful like we did.
It won’t disappoint.
How to make chia jam?
You won’t believe how easily this jam comes together. No canning, no crazy amounts of added sugar–no, no, all this magical jam needs is berries and chia seeds.
Simply cook your fruit over medium heat until it starts to break down. Add in some lemon zest for an extra zing, and maple syrup if your berries are tart (you might not even need it!). Lastly, using the amazing gelling power of chia seeds, stir the chia seeds into your berry mixture and wait about 10 minutes. No joke. It’s that easy.
The most important part is giving the jam time to sit and soak up all the good stuff. The chia seeds will swell up, absorbing the moisture from the berries and create a thick jam without any added binders. YUM.
What are chia seeds?
Chia seeds are tiny black seeds packed full of good for you stuff. They’re sort of a superfood these days and help to provide sustainable, long lasting energy because of their fiber, protein, and vitamin rich break down.
You’ve probably seen them mixed into oatmeal, sprinkled on smoothie bowls, in chia pudding (YUM), and now in this jam!

Bumbleberry Chia Jam
Why choose 1 berry when you can have 3? This bumbleberry chia jam made with blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. Use this in place of regular jam in any recipe or eat it by the spoonful like we did. It just makes your mouth happy.
- Prep Time: 0 minutes
- Cook Time: 15 minutes
- Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
- Yield: 3 cups of jam
- 1 cup raspberries, fresh or frozen
- 1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
- 1 cup strawberries, fresh or frozen
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (about 1 small lemon)
- maple syrup to taste
- Add all the berries to a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir the berries as they cook until they begin to break down and start to reduce and bubble, about 5 to 10 minutes. Add in the lemon zest and stir together. Mash the fruit with your wooden spoon, breaking down the fruit to your desired consistency. You can also use an immersion blender if you don’t want any pieces of fruit.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the maple syrup (or honey) to taste. This totally depends on how sweet your berries are and how sweet you want your jam. We used one tablespoon.
- Add in the chia seeds and stir to combine. Your jam will still be thin, but don’t worry, the chia will start to gel up and thicken.
- Let the jam stand for 10 minutes until it’s thickened. It will continue to thicken, but if it’s still very liquidy you can always stir in another tablespoon of chia seeds (it depends how watery your berries are!).
- Transfer the jam to a sealable container and refrigerate. The jam will keep well in fridge for 7 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Enjoy on a PB & J or by the spoonful. YUM.
