Growing up my mom would ALWAYS have rolls with dinner. I mean no meal is complete without a warm roll to mop up all those tasty flavors, am I right? Our favorite rolls were always the flaky, buttery, slightly sweet rolls you can just plop on a baking sheet straight from the can. But we’re adults now and it’s time to level up the roll game with a little sprinkle of everything seasoning. Even though these homemade parker house rolls take a little more time they are SO worth it.

What is everything bagel seasoning?

If you’ve ever had an everything bagel, I’m sure you’re already salivating looking at these homemade dinner rolls. Everything bagel seasoning is the best thing since sliced bread. I eat it every day on avocado toast, eggs, sandwiches…the list goes on. You can find it at Trader Joes and gourmet food stores like Williams Sonoma or Sur La Table. Or you can make it right at home! If you do decide to make your own you’ll need the following seeds and spices:

  • Poppy Seeds
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Black Sesame Seeds
  • Minced Dried Garlic
  • Minced Dried Onion
  • Flaked Sea Salt

A little goes a long way in these homemade dinner rolls. One shake of seasoning on each roll will give you the perfect amount of seedy spice.

How to make homemade rolls

I know homemade dinner rolls can sound intimidating, but once you get the hang of making bread it’s actually a fun activity. Plus there’s something super satisfying and therapeutic about kneading, resting, and shaping bread. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that they’re just plain delicious to consume.

  1. Mix together the Fleischmann’s® RapidRise Yeast, sugar, salt, and some of the flour.
  2. Microwave the milk, water and butter together until warm, but not hot.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and beat for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and ½ cup more flour. Beat for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the remainder of the flour to form a soft dough.
  6. Knead for 10 minutes. Form into a ball and place in a warm place to rise for ten minutes.
  7. Cut the dough into portions and roll into balls. Place in a pan lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush each roll with butter, sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown! Devour!

I love a good classic Parker house roll, but a sprinkle of everything seasoning puts these over the top. Everyone I’ve made these for has frantically texted me asking for the recipe the second they devour one buttery bite. So here you go! Read on for this delicious dinner roll recipe:

Units:

Ingredients

  • 43/4 to 5-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 envelopes Fleischmann’s® RapidRise Yeast
  • 11/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup butter OR margarine, melted
  • 3 Tablespoons Everything Bagel Seasoning

Instructions

    1. Combine 2 cups flour, sugar, Fleischmann’s® RapidRise Yeast and salt in a large mixer bowl.
    2. Heat milk, water, and 1/4 cup butter until very warm (120° to 130°F). Stir into flour mixture. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed with an electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally.
    3. Add the egg and 1/2 cup more of the flour. Beat for 2 minutes at high speed. Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
    4. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes. Cover; let rest 10 minutes. (Or, if desired, place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and allow it to rise in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours.)
    5. Divide dough in half; roll each half to a 12-inch square, about 1/4-inch thick. Cut each into 6 (12 x 2-inch) strips. Cut each strip into 3 (4 x 2-inch) rectangles. Brush each rectangle with melted butter and sprinkle with Everything bagel seasoning. Arrange in rows ¼ inch apart to allow room to expand. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
    6. Once rolls are proofed, preheat the oven to 400°F. Bake the rolls for 13 to 15 minutes or until golden brown and hollow sounding when you tap on the bottom of a roll.

  1. I made these for the first time but didn’t use the everything seasoning, just the butter. They were amazing! I love that they use instant yeast and needed very little rise time. They were so soft, light and fluffy, and delicious!

  2. Trying rolls/bread for the first time so I’m probably overthinking but I gave 2 questions. Do you roll into balls or cut into rectangles to bake? Also, recipe says 20 rolls but instructions say roll into (2) 12 inch squares and cut each of those into 18 rolls for a total of 36. Again, probably overthinking but ….help!!! Thank you 🙂

    • Hi Kim! Sorry for the confusion–do what the recipe says! So roll them out and cut into rectangles before folding up into little rolls!
