Tips for the best lucky charms rice krispie treats
Rice Krispie treats are one of the easiest desserts to make at home, but I like to consider myself somewhat of a rice krispie treats expert. These are my three fail proof tips for getting perfectly soft and gooey rice krispie treats every time.
Don’t overcook the marshmallows. This is the worst mistake you can make when it comes to making rice krispie treats. If you cook the marshmallows for too long they’ll get SUPER sticky, which can make your bars almost painfully chewy (it will still be delicious, but it will give you a jaw workout
Work quickly. The only tricky thing about marshmallow bars is that they can get sticky and hard to work with real fast if the melted marshmallows start to harden. I recommend working quickly so that it’s easy to fold everything together and get it into your pan!
Press a few extra Lucky Charms marshmallows on top of your bars. The magical marshmallows in Lucky Charms can get a little smooshy looking after all that folding and coating with marshmallow business. I like to press a few extra marshmallows on top of the lucky charms rice krispies solely for presentation purposes! But they are also tasty 🙂
Grease a 9 x 9 pan with cooking spray and set aside.
In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the marshmallows and salt and stir with a rubber spatula, scraping down the sides to make sure the marshmallows do not burn. As soon as the marshmallows are melted, remove from the heat immediately.
Add the Lucky Charms cereal, folding to coat the cereal completely.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan, pressing down into an even layer.*
Place in the fridge to set for at least 20 minutes. Once set, use a sharp knife to cut the Rice Krispie treats into 12 rectangles.
If your marshmallow Lucky Charms treats are especially sticky, I recommend spray a rubber spatula with cooking spray and using it to press the bars down into an even layer!
