How to store Oreo chocolate chip cookies

Stale cookies make me sad. And I don’t want you to be sad–OBVIOUSLY. So I’ve rounded up my top tips for ensuring your cookies stay tasting fresh-from-the-oven even when they’re on day 3.

We almost always have leftover baked goods around the house (surprise, surprise), so I’ve kind of perfected the whole storing cookies thing. Here are my top tips to keep your cookies soft, chewy and fresh!

  • Under bake! Under baking your cookies slightly will give them a soft and gooey center that will stay softer over time than a cookie that already starts out slightly dry and over baked!
  • Let the cookies cool completely before storing. If you try to store the cookies when they are still warm they will create condensation in your container or bag and trap the water droplets there. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like a damp cookie.
  • Seal in an airtight container or bag. The less air around your cookies the better! If your container or bag is allowing air to circulate in your cookies will dry out faster. This is why I prefer to store cookies in a plastic bag or tupperware rather than foil or plastic wrapped on a plate!
  • If you’re not going to eat them all in the foreseeable future, FREEZE ‘EM. If you know you’re not going to plow through 12 more cookies in the next few days, store them in the freezer instead! These oreo chocolate chip cookies will keep in the freeze for up to 2 months!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 18 Oreo cookies, roughly crushed or chopped into medium size pieces
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a stand mixer fit with the paddle attachment, beat the softened butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  3. Use a rubber spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the eggs and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and combined.
  4. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt and mix until just combined and no streaks of flour remain.
  5. Last, fold in the Oreo cookie pieces and white chocolate chips.
  6. Use a 1 ounce cookie scoop or a large spoon to scoop out cookie dough balls, dropping them 2 inches apart on your prepared cookie sheet. Bake at 350° F for 12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centers have puffed up, but are still slightly under done.
  7. Allow to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire cooling rack to cool completely before eating! Enjoy!

  1. Hi. Bought a pack of crushed oreos. Would that be okay to use? If so, would you know how many in cups would I use for this recipe? Thanks!

  2. This is the second recipe I have made from this blog and I am OBSESSED! The step by step process helps this girl who CANNOT bake or cook! Makes it SO much easier:)

  3. I made these today and they were super flat and spread out. Wondering if the butter should be a half cup, or the flour should be increased. They had good flavor, just didn’t turn out like the pic.

    • Hi! I’ve never had that happen with this recipe before but I’m sorry to hear your cookies spread too much! You could add a few more Tablespoons of flour or try chilling the dough for a few hours to get them to hold their shape more!

  4. YUM! I made these gluten free with gf all-purpose flour and gf oreos (!), and they were perfect!! Ate them a little too quickly… 🙂
