The Ultimate Holiday Cookie Board

Who says charcuterie is just for cheese? Not me! And as the resident “Sweet Talker” on the ALDI Charcuterie Board of Directors you can rest assured that I’m an expert when it comes to all things sweets. The Charcuterie Board Members (don’t you just love the way that sounds hehe), are here with alllll the tips and tricks to help you board like a pro, from styling tips to recipe inspo and everything in between. And my expertise? SWEETS. So you can just trust me when I says, this loaded up cookie board is super easy to make and a serious crowd pleaser.

What is a dessert board?

Oh allow me to tell you. A dessert board is exactly like a charcuterie board, but instead of filling it up with meats and cheeses you’ll load it up with chocolate, cookies, and candy. I mean…sounds like my kind of board. This cookie board is perfect for a holiday party, a cozy movie night, or leaving out for Santa!

Ingredients for the ultimate cookie board

The key to any sort of board is abundance and variety, so you’re going to need a fair amount of ingredients. But, wait–don’t be scared off! Not only can you tweak the ingredient list to whatever your favorite sweets are, you’ll also use a variety of store bought cookies and homemade cookies, which makes putting this cookie board together super easy.. Now I know you might be thinking all those ingredients might be a little $$, but thanks to ALDI you can get EVERYTHING (yes, everything) in one spot at super affordable prices.

I’m a firm believer that grocery shopping should be FUN. I always get excited when I head to ALDI to see what new seasonal things they have on the shelves. They always have everything I need and then some. From their high quality charcuterie products (the cheese is unreal), festive holiday cookies and candies, and homeware steals like these Crofton Cheese Boards you see in the photos, holiday candles, baking tools and so many other seasonal products, you’ll find every single thing you need there!

Okay, here’s your ingredient list!

  • S’mores Cookies: These have to be one of my most favorite cookies I’ve ever made. Picture the moist soft and chewy brown butter chocolate chip cookie loaded up with graham crackers with a gooey marshmallow center. Truly a dream come true.
  • Marshmallow Molasses Cookies: The marshmallow stuffed cookies were such a hit with the s’mores that we just had to do another one. These molasses cookies are soft and tender and perfectly spiced. They’re perfect for a Christmas cookie box and even better for a delicious cookie board.
  • Moser Roth Chocolate: Chocolate is always a good idea. I love the Moser Roth Chocolate because it’s tasty enough to eat (like we did on this cookie board), but it’s also perfect for baking with. We always have a few bars in the house.
  • Benton’s Animal Crackers: I don’t know anyone that doesn’t like animal crackers. They’re nostalgic, perfectly sweet, and a fun shape to mix up all those rounds on your cookie board.
  • Benton’s Caramel Coconut Fudge Cookies: These guys taste exactly like the girl scout cookies and you can get them year round at ALDI. We simply had to include them.
  • Benton’s Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies: I think we can all agree that no cookie board would be completely without a classic chocolate chip cookie. I love these Benton mini chocolate chip cookies because they’re so tiny that they add a nice variety to your dessert board.
  • Benton’s Original Chocolate Sandwich Cookies: These are the cream of the crop of packaged cookies, so it was a no brainer to include these. They’re perfectly for fanning out, stacking, and obviously snacking on.
  • Choceur Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds: These chocolate covered almonds are perfect for filling in any nooks and crannies on your board.

Our tips for putting together a stunning cookie board

Just like a cheese board, a dessert board is pretty simple to put together, but there’s also a certain art to the presentation. Follow our top tips for a cookie board that’s every bit as beautiful as it is delicious

  1. Use a variety different shaped cookies: Round cookies, sandwich cookies, shaped cookies, mini cookies…the variety will make your board seem even more abundant and appealing
  2. Stick to a color story: For our cookie board we went with a chocolate theme, so we stuck with a relatively neutral chocolate palette. A Christmas cookie board would also be super cute with a red and green theme!
  3. Use a combination of homemade and store bought sweets: I know I bake for a living, but this girl loves a good store-bought cookie. And let’s be real–we don’t always have the time (especially around the holidays) for making everything homemade. I like to use a combination of premade and homemade treats to make a delicious and easy cookie board.
  4. Tweak the board to what you like: The awesome thing about dessert boards is that you can load them up with whatever you like. S’mores not your thing? Nix the s’more cookies and make classic chocolate chip cookies instead. Not a chocolate person? Go all out on frosted sugar cookies and swap out the Choceur Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds for roasted peanuts or pecans instead. The options are endless.

Go forth and eat cookies, my friends!
